Sometimes the children of military families are psychologically traumatized because a parent may have been wounded or killed while deployed. Because they are children, they may have a difficult time understanding or dealing with their feelings of anger, sadness, grief, confusion and anxiety.
Wounded Warriors Family Support has partnered with Take Flight Farms to help our children and families heal emotionally by working with horses. Families will take part in activities with horses that will foster learning, healing, and growth. Families will experience the healing power of horses which will involve a series of three sessions with a licensed facilitator, an equine specialist and experienced Take Flight horses.
Each session will include ground-based (no riding is involved) activities with horses. Why? At Take Flight Farms, the horses and people are on a level playing field and as a result, stronger and more interactive bonds are formed. The lessons learned here can have a positive effect in rebuilding or reinforcing family relationships.
For example, you and your family might be asked to construct an obstacle course. Each item you include could represent something in your life. Then you might be asked to move your horse through the course, with each family member having a lead rope. Imagine the problem-solving skills, self expression and creativity that come into play!
Discussion is then guided by the team of professionals to help you examine and further understand your experience.
Our farm is located in the scenic region of Ponca Hills just north of Omaha, Nebraska.
